The UnderDeck Shield system was designed by homeowners for homeowners. Creating dry, usable space is closer than you think.
TopSide Installation
If your deck is new, or if you're in the process of getting new decking, a topside installation is your best bet. A topside install delivers the added benefit of protecting your joists from moisture and extending the life of your deck.
Recommended for:
Any new deck
Any deck without decking in place
IMPORTANT: UnderDeck Shield panels are engineered specifically for decks supported by joists 16” on center.
UnderSide Installation
If your deck is existing and elevated, you’ll be employing the underside installation method. Very few under-deck products are capable of this… you’re in the right place!
Recommended for:
Elevated decks
Any deck with an accessible underside
IMPORTANT: UnderDeck Shield panels are engineered specifically for decks supported by joists 16” on center.
With a couple of simple measurements, the UnderDeck Shield Calculator will estimate what you need to get your deck in check. Grab a tape measure, and let’s get started.
WHat you'll Need
The Underdeck Shield system was designed by average homeowners for average homeowners. It requires no special tools and even if you don’t consider yourself “super handy” you can get this done, with impressive results. Here's what you'll need:
- Safety glasses
- Tape measure
- Heavy-duty pair of utility scissors
- Staple gun
- Cordless drill - for underside install
- Clear sealant (included in product calculation)
- 1.5” screws (included in product calculation)
Tips and Tricks
Smart hacks, better builds. Tap through the images to see tricks that save time, cut stress, and get results that last.
At just over 3 pounds each, UnderDeck Shield panels are light and easy to handle. Still, an extra set of hands makes everything go faster—fewer trips up and down the ladder, and someone there to hold the panel while you fasten it. Two people, two cordless drills? That’s the sweet spot.
For topside and underside installs, a staple gun or hammer tacker can be a real lifesaver, especially if the wind kicks up. As you set the panels in place, a few staples will keep everything from shifting until the decking goes down.
Take a closer look and you’ll notice a row of evenly spaced dimples along the edge of each panel. Those dimples show you exactly where to place fasteners for an underside install. No guessing. No “one more for good measure.” Just follow the dimples and you’ll get a clean install that holds perfectly.
If your deck has a non-standard space between joists—anything other than 16" on center—the panels will need to be adjusted. To do this, cut each panel along one of the ribs, then slide the sections together until the gap is fully covered. Once aligned, secure the panels with staples, followed by screws, and apply sealant along the overlapping seam.
